Steven has been sleeping in his toddler bed for almost a week now.  We've started putting him to bed about a half an hour later because before he would stay up & play around for a while in his crib before falling asleep.  We thought that if he went to bed a little later that he would *hopefully* stay in his bed better.  It's been working pretty well so far!  We haven't really had any problems with him getting up.  This past Friday was the first time he'd taken a nap in his new bed so I was a little worried about him getting up a lot.  I put him down & then walked by his door a few minutes later.  I had left his door cracked so he would come out if he got up.  I just glanced at the door & almost had a heart attack!  Steven was standing right behind the cracked door with his arms to the side.  He had his head slightly down & was looking up at me.  Yeah, just imagine really creepy ghost kid & you will imagine my son.  My heart was pounding for quite a while.  Seriously, creepiest thing I've seen in a while.

Week #2 = Uggh

Yeah, so this whole work-out thing is not starting out the way I wanted to.  This week was BAD.  In my own defense, I was sick from Sunday evening until Wednesday.  I must have gotten some sort of a bug or food poisoning cause it was no fun.  The rest of the week I have no excuse for.  I was pretty busy but I'm always going to be busy so I just need to suck it up!  I was very afraid that I was going to gain a ton of weight but I didn't!  Hooray! I didn't lose any, either, but considering I only worked out once this week...Yeah.  I hope to do better this week!

Toddler Bed

Yesterday I put Steven in time-out in his crib.  When I came in to get him I found him on top of his changing table. It's attached to his crib, as shown in the above picture.  He's never been able to climb out of his crib or even onto his changing table before. We've been waiting to change his crib into a toddler bed until he was starting to climb out on his own.  Why fix it if it ain't broken, right?  When Josh came home we decided to convert it into a toddler bed that night.  We had decided that we would leave his room door cracked a bit and then if he came out we would put him back in bed.  We wanted to make sure he still knew that he was supposed to sleep when we put him in his bed.  Steven didn't come out at all so Josh peeked into his room to see what was going on.  He was sitting on the edge of his bed swinging his legs & pouting a little.  He went to sleep pretty quickly, though, with very little noise.  (Yay!)
This morning I went into Steven's room when he started making noises for a while but didn't come out.  His blanket was on the bed but he was no where to be seen.  At first I thought that maybe he'd come out before I went in and I just didn't see him. I called for him and he started making noises.  I found him on the floor, half-way underneath his bed.  No blanket, no pillow.  Wait it gets better.  He had also taken all of his clothes as well as his diaper off.  He has taken his pajamas off at night but never his diaper.  I guess there's a first time for everything!  And no wonder he was crying! The floor in his room are hardwood and cold in the morning, especially if you're naked.  His first night in his toddler bed could've definitely been worse but we'll definitely have a good story to tell! :)

Work Out Project

So for the first week of my goal, I did not do so well.  Isn't the first week (or two) supposed to be the one that you do the best?  Apparently not in my case.  I only worked out 4 times last week instead of the 5-6 I wanted, but 2 of them don't count as full workouts.
Monday - Kenpo X (from the p90x series)
Wednesday - Ab Ripper X
Friday - Kenpo X
Saturday - Half of the Legs & Back p90x workout (I'm super surprised that I'm still sore after only half of that workout...)

Not really surprisingly, but much to my disappointment, I actually gained weight from last week.  Only .8 lbs as of this morning, but still not what I wanted.  I can't say that it came as that big of a shock considering that this week I went out to eat, didn't really watch my portions, & got me some Ben & Jerry's.  I'm going to do a lot better this week!  This working out thing is hard with 2 kids + work.  I'm determined to reach my goal, though...if I don't do it now, it probably will never happen.

Food, Inc.

A few weeks ago I watched the documentary Food, Inc. My brother-in-law had been talking about it when they were visiting in July so I decided to watch it.  What an eye-opener!  Some of the stuff they talked about I knew, but a lot of it was shocking.  It's sad that we as a nation have let our food become so foreign to us.  By foreign I mean that many people really don't know where their food comes from (and I don't just mean from the grocery store).  One particularly sad part was when they interviewed a family that said, "Yeah, we'd like to eat healthy, but we just can't afford it.  For the same price as a head of lettuce, we can get a whole hamburger or two at a fast-food place."  How true! and how sad.  In general, healthy food is a lot more expensive than junk or fast-food.  The only way that's ever going to change is if people make it change.  I'm not here to preach food lobbyist reform, so don't worry about some political schpeal ;)

Honestly, I thought that people who ate "organic" were either hippies or pretenious.  I also thought it was way too expensive (which it generally is, truth be told) & just shied away from it.  I'm not sure why, because I actually ate tons of "organic" produce growing up: my mom had a garden!  What's more organic than that?? Watching Food, Inc, really changed my mind about that, though.  In my mind now, eating organic is about being healthy & knowing where your food is coming from (more or less).  Also through watching other shows as well, I've become more concerned about what I'm feeding my kids.  They are not the ones who go out and buy their food so the majority of what they eat is because of me.  I don't want my kids to be unhealthy because I didn't feed them nutrious food.

So now I've had a bit of a change of heart towards organic food.  Realistically, I can't afford organic for every little thing, so I need to start out small.  For now, I'm just going to try to get my produce & dairy/eggs organic & free-range meat/chicken if the prices aren't outrageous.  When I say "organic" I mean either labeled organic at the grocery store, labeled "grown locally" or "Utah's own" or from a fruit stand/farmers market.  This resolution came at the same time I also decided to put myself on a budget for groceries.  I've been doing pretty good for the past few weeks so hopefully I can keep it up.  I think it will be a little harder once winter comes because there are no more farmers markets or fruit stands.  Fresh produce is way yummier than the stuff you usually get in the store anyway, so it's a no-brainer to switch (aside from the cost).  When we have more room for it, we'll definitely have a garden.  Until then, this will have to do :)

If anyone knows of any good places to buy local or organic foods, let me know!

Work Out! Part 2

After much debate & swaying between different options, I came to a conclusion (with the help of my awesome husband) that if I put my mind to it, I could fairly easily get to my goal weight in 4 - 6 weeks  (I only want to lose about 10 more lbs).  I'm okay at maintaining my weight so hopefully once I get there I don't have to be a freak about working out & all that. Much easier said than done, and who knows if it'll work the way I want it to?  So instead of spending money when I don't really need to, I've just decided to buckle down & use the things I already have to get my workouts in.  I have workout videos & I have a workout room at my condo complex that I can use once in a while.  I know myself well enough that if I just worked out "whenever I have time" or whenever I get around to it, it'll take me several months to lose those 10 lbs.  If I commit to working out 5-6 days a week & watching my portions than I think I'll be able to lose those 10 lbs in less than 2 months.  So that's what I'm going to do.  This month I've been trying to be a bit more active...but I don't think just taking the stairs more & doing what Josh likes to call "p-jacks" (doing 30 jumping jacks every time I go to the bathroom) is really going to get me to lose the weight I want to lose.
So Starting today (Monday, August 16th):
-I'm going to work out 5-6 days a week, at least 30 minutes a workout, until I get to my goal weight (hopefully I will get there in 4-6 weeks)
-I'm also going to watch my portions & focus on getting at least 5 fruits & veggies per day. (I'm super bad at getting my fruits & veggies every day.)
-So I feel more motivated, I'm going to update my progress on here way more faithfully than I have in the past.  Feel free to skip those posts ;)

I'm really hoping this will work out & that I can get down to my goal weight fairly quickly.  :)
This morning I started my morning by doing P90X's Ab Ripper X (hard work-out!) & tonight before I get to bed I will do P90X's Kenpo workout.  I'll keep you updated!

Mom's Birthday Weekend

Steven had a good time playing on this ball at my sister's house. It's a good ab workout, too ;)

Yes, that is my flip-flop that Emily got ahold of & put in her mouth...
This is the way Steven "dances".  He puts his arms up & twists his body around.  It's very cute :)

Sofia has such a weird hair pattern on her head!  It's like a reverse monk fringe.  There's just a circle of bald.

My brother's Dave & Marc got posion oak while helping to move a hot tub.  They didn't realize they had picked it up, though, until they drove to California & wore those same shoes again.  Here's is one of David's legs.  Apparently it got much worse when they got home.
I love this picture of Sammy & Sofia :)
Proof that my son does eat.  I wonder sometimes...

That's not chocolate.  That's dirt.

3 months!

Sofia is now 3 months old.  It's crazy how fast time flies.  It's really weird to have a second kid for me.  And I don't really mean because it's like ridiculously hard or that kind of thing.  I mean because I've forgotten when Steven started doing certain things.  Steven seems so much bigger & older than Sofia so I still consider her to be a newborn.  I forget that at 3 months Steven was playing with toys & starting to show interest in rolling over & wanting to sit up.  Steven seemed so much bigger & older faster than Sofia is seeming to me.  The other day I realized that Sofia was bored & wanted to be looking at things.  It was like a light bulb went off in my head & I thought, "Oh yeah!  I should probably start getting out some toys for her...she is getting older..."  I'm sure I will always feel this way a little bit.  Steven seems like he so much older than he is sometimes & Sofia is just the opposite.  I'm guessing there are a lot of parents out there that feel that way.

So some milestones:
-I'm not sure how much she weighs but I'm thinking around 11 - 11 1/2 lbs.
-She's sleeping through the night (hooray!).  She'll fall asleep around 10 & wake up at about 5:30.  She wakes a little earlier than I'd like, but I can't really complain.
-She still sleeps a lot during the day but is also getting more & more interactive & wanting to play.
-She'll smile & coo at us all the time.  She's only full-out laughed once or twice.
-There's not a ton other that's going on because, really, she's only 3 months & basically all they do is eat, sleep, & poop. ;)

I'll post pictures later.
